In MPC’S Population Studies Training program, I am interested in further building out my quantitative skills to conduct research to understand how Latinx individuals and families are racialized by the criminal-legal and immigration systems and how this affects Latinx youth’s development and the consequences this has on their mental health, recidivating behaviors, and long-term outcomes for individuals and families.
Rudy Perez is a PhD student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. His primary research interests include racial and ethnic categorization and classification, stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, and stigma. Specifically, he is interested in the impact and potential strategies to address the Latinx data gap to improve public policy. His research and policy interests also include policing, immigration, and border policy. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, going on walks, cycling, and learning new recipes at home.
