Visiting Scholars

MPC warmly welcomes Visiting Scholars— post docs, research staff, or faculty members from other institutions who are actively engaged in population studies research.

Scholars visiting MPC for more than a month need to be an official MPC Visiting Scholar. Any visitor requiring a visa, UCard, or keycard access to MPC also needs to be an official Visiting Scholar, regardless of the length of stay. Visiting Scholars must be approved by the MPC Advisory Board.

All visiting scholars must have an MPC sponsor—an MPC faculty or research staff member—who takes responsibility for integrating the visitor into the social and intellectual life of the MPC.

To request a visiting scholar, the UMN sponsor must provide the following information, via email, to mpc@umn.edu:

  • Intellectual rationale for the visit
  • Dates of proposed visit
  • What is needed from MPC (e.g., works space, computer, visa application support, UCard, x500, etc.)
  • Statement from the sponsor of how they will integrate the visitor into the social and intellectual life of the MPC
  • CV from proposed visiting scholar
