Research Interests
My research is on the longitudinal impact of violent death (i.e., homicide, suicide, and death after police contact) on African American families. I am interested in African American mortality rates and structural racism. As a family social science student, I utilize life course theoretical frameworks to understand how violence, trauma, and structural racism impact the life trajectories of African American children, impacting their mental health and health outcomes as they age. I believe that my interest area would be well suited within the MPC, particularly in the areas of structural racism and demography (mortality).
