Any University of Minnesota faculty member, research staff member, postdoctoral researcher, or graduate student actively engaged in population studies research may apply for MPC membership. To apply, please complete this application form. The MPC Advisory Board reviews and approves membership applications at their monthly meetings.
Faculty, postdocs, and researchers outside of the of the University of Minnesota may apply for either full membership services as an External Member or apply for limited services as an Affiliate Member (see details below). For more information on external or affiliate membership, please email mpc@umn.edu.
MPC Membership Categories
UMN Faculty and Research Staff Membership
All faculty and research staff at the UMN Twin Cities (UMN TC) who are actively engaged in population dynamics research as shown by (1) recent publications, (2) external funding portfolio, or (3) a clear narrative articulation of a proposed population health/dynamics research agenda can become a MPC Member with access to all of our member services.
UMN Postdoctoral Members
All postdoctoral researchers at the UMN TC who are actively engaged in population dynamics research as shown by (1) recent publications, (2) external funding portfolio, or (3) a clear narrative articulation of a proposed population health/dynamics research agenda can become an MPC Member with access to many of our member services.
UMN Graduate Student Members
All graduate students enrolled in a master’s, PhD, or professional program at the UMN TC who are actively engaged in population dynamics research as shown by (1) recent publications, (2) external funding portfolio, or (3) a clear narrative articulation of a proposed population health/dynamics research agenda can become an MPC Student Member with access to many of our member services.
External Members (Non-UMN Faculty and Research Scientists)
To become an external member with access to all of our member services, external applicants must fit one of the following criteria:
- Population dynamics researchers at universities without P2C-funded population centers with whom our members collaborate and who articulate a clear need for our services to support their relevant research.
- Representatives from community organizations that do research relevant to our mission.
- Population dynamics researchers who participate in our Population Scholars Program, which prioritizes new and early-stage investigators (NESIs), scholars from historically underrepresented groups, and scholars from universities without population centers.
- Population dynamics researchers/investigators at non-TC UMN campuses, MNSCU campuses, and MN liberal arts colleges who articulate a clear need for our support.
To apply for external membership, contact us at mpc@umn.edu.
MPC Affiliates (Outside University of Minnesota)
Non-UMN researchers who are actively engaged in population dynamics research and who are no longer students. This category includes former students who are now in jobs at other institutions, former ISRDI research staff who are now in jobs at other institutions, and former UMN faculty members who have moved to new institutions but do not qualify under the External Member category. This membership level retains association with the MPC but has only limited access to our services.
