Jiao Yu joined the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota as a postdoctoral research associate in September 2021. Previously, she completed her Ph.D. in sociology at Case Western Reserve University. An overarching theme of her studies is the social determinants of health disparities over the life course. Her research interests lie in the intersection of environment, aging, and health. Her studies focus on the cumulative dis/advantage processes over the life course that lead to disparities in psychological well-being, functional health, and mortality in old age. She currently works with the PMA project team through IPUMS to examine fertility health, family planning, and healthcare access in sub-Saharan African countries.
