Student Travel Funding

The following procedures describe the process for MPC student employees and MPC student members to apply for travel funds. 


MPC encourages students to present research at the PAA annual meeting, and MPC can help fund travel to PAA. The highest funding priority is given to students who have a poster or paper on the program and to graduate students in the population studies training program. We also consider requests from those who submit an abstract that is not accepted, with higher priority to those who have never attended PAA. Students who receive travel support are expected to work at the MPC exhibit booth, attend the alumni night party and be available for other MPC events.

  • All students must complete the PAA Travel Funds Request by February 16, 2019. Student members who are not MPC research assistants, submit the completed form to For MPC student employees, complete the form and send it to and copy your supervisor.

The MPC also has limited funds available to support professional development of student members. These requests could include funds to attend workshops, courses, training sessions, or academic conference (not covered by PAA or project-related travel). The MPC Training Director manages student professional development funds.

  • There is no form for professional development travel. Simply send an email briefly describing your request including a proposed budget to Please email request with as much advance notice as possible.


If your travel funds are approved, you are responsible for reviewing and understanding the MPC Travel Guidelines. All travelers are responsible for complying with University travel policies.


After traveling, complete the travel expense reimbursement worksheet and return it to Admin Core. We can also help document non-reimbursed travel expenses for tax purposes.
